I have an older WM2002 and when I put that one in I get the following: "Windows Mobile Device Center supports device with Windows Mobile 2003 or later. Earlier verions of Windows Mobile are not supported" So the interesting thing is that you can't install ActiveSync in Vista, and you can't have an older PocketPC.

In various areas, Portable Devices, Networking, etc, I found things like Pocket PC, PocketPC USB Sync, and Microsoft Windows Remote Adapter. I got rid of any device like those. Then I went to remove programs in the control panel and got rid of both Windows Mobile Device Center and WMDC Update.

I have not found the migration to Vista too problematic, but this problem of not being able to read Pocket Word / Excel docs after they have been sync-ed using the Windows Mobile Device Center is very frustrating to say the least.
